Voters in the Parish of St George, Hanover Square, Westminster
(1837)
A poll was taken 26 July 1837 for the election of two members to represent the City of Westminster in Parliament. The candidates were Lieut.-Col. de Lacey Evans, John Temple Leader, and Gen. the Right Hon. sir George Murray, K. G. C. This poll book lists the electors with full name (surname first) and address (in italics), dashes indicating for whom they cast their votes. The names are listed alphabetically by first letter of surname, arranged in the eight parishes of Westminster, plus the extra-parochial Precincts of the Savoy.COFF. Doctors trained in Britain or Ireland but living abroad
(1948)
The Medical Directory was split into several sections. The Practitioners Resident Abroad section covered all medical practitioners who, having qualified in Britain or Ireland, were living abroad. Each year a schedule was sent to each doctor to be returned to the publishers, so as to keep the directory up to date. In the directory the doctor's name is given first, in bold, surname first, in capitals; then current address. Next are the qualifications; the italic abbreviations in parentheses following the qualifications indicate the medical school at which they were gained. Then there is a list of posts and honours within the profession, starting with those then current; previous posts are preceded by the word 'late'. Structural Engineers (M. I. STRUCT. E.)

The Institution of Structural Engineers was founded in 1908 and incorporated by royal charter in 1934. The institution had nine branches in Britain and Northern Ireland, and one in South Africa. The 1953 year book includes this list of members corrected to 1 August 1953, giving year of election to the various grades, surname (in bold), christian name, honours, address, and telephone number. 'Members shall be persons elected as such who, either (a) having attained the age of not less than thirty years and passed an examination qualifying for Associate-Membership and subsequent to this have been engaged for at least five years in a position of responsibility for the design or execution of important structural engineering work; or (b) having attained the age of not less than forty years and being engaged in the profession of structural engineering shall have had at least fifteen years' employment in positions of responsibility for the design or execution of important structural engineering work and shall have acquired a considerable degree of eminence as a structural engineer.'COFF.
