The Court Leet and View of Frankpledge of the manor of Manchester in Lancashire was held twice a year on the first Thursdays after Easter and Michaelmas. The record of each court starts with a list of the jurors, and then records the deaths of tenants and burgesses, with the names of their heirs, who were to do suit to the court; and transfers of burgages by sale, and homage of new burgesses. Then there are presentments of all manner of minor enroachments and misdemeanours, such as blocking of ditches, stopping of highways, noisome drains, &c. Finally there are new general ordinances, often with the appointment of officers to see that they are enforced. Every Michaelmas saw the swearing in of a long list of officers for the coming year, including the borough reeve, constables, market lookers, mise layers and gatherers, sealers of leather, officers for fruit and wholesome bread and (the prevention of) football, aletasters, bylawmen (burleymen), scavengers, (ap)praisers, catchpole, swineherd, and also the affeerers, who judged the fines to be levied by the court. The constables' accounts of the manor of Manchester in Lancashire from 1633 to 1647 were edited by J. P. Earwaker and published in 1892. The accounts largely consist of details of disbursements by the constables, and as such include payments to paupers and soldiers with passes to help them on their journeys to and from other parts of the country. Earwaker added nine 'important appendices' to the work: 1. Disbursements and Receipts during the Plague of Manchester, 1605-6 and 1606 (from State Papers Domestic in the Public Record Office); 2. List of the Books of Assessment, Charity Money Accounts, &c., now in the Possession of the Corporation; 3. List of the Inhabitants of Manchester in 1648 (pages 181 to 201); 4. | Massachusetts Criminals, Litigants, Lawyers and Jurors

The only surviving complete volume of the records of the courts held by the Governor and Assistants of the Colony of the Massachusetts Bay is for the period 1673 to 1692. It was transcribed by John Noble, and published by order of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Boston, New England, as County Commissioners of the County of Suffolk, Massachusetts. Under English law overseas colonies were generally deemed to fall under the jurisdiction of the Admiralty, and were subject to English law varied by local circumstances. These Courts of Assistants therefore also function as Courts of Admiralty; the courts had jurisiction over criminal cases and also in civil disputes between parties. In practice, many of the names that occur in the record are just those of the members of the grand jury and the lesser juries (appointed from among the adult male householders of the colony) before whom the cases were tried.DANA. The minutes of the 'General Assembly of the Governor and Company of His Majesty's English Colony of Connecticut in New England in America' from page 447 to the end of volume IX, and pages 1 to 310 of volume X, transcribed and edoted by Charles J. Hoadly, State Librarian, were printed at Hartford in 1881. The record of each assembly commences with a list of officers, and of the representatives or deputies of the freemen of the several towns in the colony. There are then elections and appointments of officers for the ensuing year, including justices of the peace for each county; general enactments; and then the results of deliberations on private petitions.DANA. The provincial sections of the Universal British Directory include lists of gentry and traders from each town and the surrounding countryside, with names of local surgeons, lawyers, postmasters, carriers, &c. (the sample scan here is from the section for Nottingham). The directory started publication in 1791, but was not completed for some years, and the provincial lists, sent in by local agents, can date back as early as 1790 and as late as 1797.

| Subscribers to Felicia Dorothea Browne's Poems

Poems, by Felicia Dorothea Browne, published in Liverpool in 1808, attracted a wide subscription list, headed by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester, and Her Royal Highness the Princess Sophia of Gloucester. Although most of the subscribers were from London or Liverpool, there are many from elsewhere in the country. The names are arranged by initial letter of surname, each letter being headed by the names of nobility; christian names are rare, most surnames being prefixed by Mr., Mrs. or Miss.
