This lay subsidy roll for Warwickshire records the tax of a tenth and a fifteenth on the laity of the county at Michaelmas 1332. The record is arranged by boroughs, ancient demesnes, and hundreds, and within hundreds by township. The roll was translated and edited by William Fowler Carter and published by the Dugdale Society in 1926, with an appendix printing the lay subsidy rolls for Stratford-upon-Avon of 1309, 1313 and 1332, and a brief extract from an assize roll of 1323 inquiring about irregularities in the levying of the tax.HOLBEN. Apprenticeship indentures and clerks' articles were subject to a 6d or 12d per pound stamp duty: the registers of the payments usually give the master's trade, address, and occupation, and the apprentice's name, as well as details of the date and length of the apprenticeship. There are central registers for collections of the stamp duty in London, as well as returns from collectors in the provinces. These collectors generally received duty just from their own county, but sometimes from further afield. The indentures themselves can date from a year or two earlier than this return. (The sample entry shown on this scan is taken from a Liverpool return. The provincial sections of the Universal British Directory include lists of gentry and traders from each town and the surrounding countryside, with names of local surgeons, lawyers, postmasters, carriers, &c. (the sample scan here is from the section for Nottingham). The directory started publication in 1791, but was not completed for some years, and the provincial lists, sent in by local agents, can date back as early as 1790 and as late as 1797.

The poll on the election of three knights of the shire to serve in Parliament for the county of Cambridge, was taken at Cambridge, Royston, Newmarket, Ely, Wisbech and Whittlesea 18 and 19 December 1832. The candidates were Henry John Adeane esquire, Richard Greaves Townley esquire, Charles Philip Yorke esquire and John Walbanke Childers esquire. This poll book sets out the names of the voters in alphabetical order hundred by hundred and parish by parish. The voters' full names are stated, surname first. The right hand column records their votes. The new qualification for suffrage in the counties, after the passage of the 1832 Great Reform Bill, was the possession of a freehold estate worth 40s a year or more, a copyhold or long leasehold of £10 a year or more, or a tenancy or short leasehold of £50 a year or more.

| Prisoners removed from Millbank Prison to the Justitia hulk
(1843-1846)
The new prison at Millbank was used as a holding centre for convicts destined for the hulks: 'few of the adult convicts remain for a longer period than three months; and of those who remain for a longer period, the most part are criminals of the worst description, who are awaiting embarkation for their final destination in Norfolk Island.' The report of the commissioners appointed to inquire into the management of the prison includes a return of male convicts transferred from the Millbank Prison to the Justitia hulk, from 1 August 1843 to 21 June 1846, giving: Register Number; Name; Number of Reports for Misconduct; Punishment; How long in this prison.
