Liberate Rolls (1260-1267) These chancery liberate rolls of the 45th to 51st years of the reign of Henry III of England record the details of payments and allowances as part of the administration of government. Most entries start with the Latin words 'liberate', meaning 'deliver', or 'allocate', meaning allow. There are also 'contrabreves', warrants mainly to sheriffs of shires, assigning them tasks and allowing expenses. Friends of the Establishment in Suffolk (1790) On 23 February 1790 at Stowmarket 'a very numerous and respectable Meeting of the Friends to the present Establishment in Church and State' was held 'to consider of the most effectual means for supporting our excellent Constitution'. Seven resolutions were passed, a key one being 'That confining public employments and places of trust to persons professing the Established Religion, is expedient for the public good; as justice and reason naturally point out a preference to those subjects whose attachment to the constitution is perfect and unequivocal, rather than to those who comply in part only with the laws of this country'. Well over 200 subscribed, their names and the resolutions being subsequently published in several London and provincial newspapers. Missing Next-of-Kin and Heirs-at-Law (1880) The Unclaimed Money Registry and Next-of-Kin Advertisement Office of F. H. Dougal & Co., on the Strand in London, published a comprehensive 'Index to Advertisements for Next of Kin, Heirs at Law, Legatees, &c., &c., who have been Advertised for to Claim Money and Property in Great Britain and all Parts of the World; also Annuitants, Shareholders, Intestates, Testators, Missing Friends, Creditors or their Representatives, Claimants, Unclaimed and Reclaimed Dividends and Stock, Citations, Administrations, Rewards for Certificates, Wills, Advertisements, &c., Claims, Unclaimed Balances, Packages, Addresses, Parish Clerks' Notices, Foreign Intestates, &c., &c.' The original list was compiled about 1860, but from materials dating back even into the 18th century: most of the references belong to 1850 to 1880. For each entry only a name is given, sometimes with a placename added in brackets: there may be a reference number, but there is no key by which the original advertisement may be traced. The enquirer of the time had to remit Ł1 for a 'Full and Authentic Copy of the Original Advertisement, together with name and date of newspaper in which the same appeared'. RAINHAM. Cost: £4.00. Outstanding soldiers of the Prince of Wales' (North Staffordshire Regiment) (1881-1901) Each year the best soldiers of the regiment were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.' (not sanctioned) and struck through. The regiment was based on the 64th Regimental District - Lichfield. The 1st battalion was transferred from the Channel Islands to Ireland in 1879; and from Ireland to England in 1883. In 1884 it embarked for the West Indies; in 1886 was sent from there to South Africa; in 1891 from South Africa to Mauritius; and in 1892 from Mauritius to Malta. In 1895 the battalion was moved to Egypt, taking part in the Dongola Expeditionary Force of 1896; and in 1897 to India. The 2nd battalion was serving in India in 1881, based at Quetta by 1885, and returned to England via Aden 30 March 1888. Having been moved to Ireland in 1893, it was sent to South Africa in 1900, and added "South Africa, 1900-1902" to the regimental honours. RAINHAM. Cost: £8.00.	Sample scan, click to enlarge
