Liberate Rolls (1240-1245) These chancery liberate rolls of the 25th to 29th years of the reign of Henry III of England record the details of payments and allowances as part of the administration of government. Most entries start with the Latin words 'liberate', meaning 'deliver', or 'allocate', meaning allow. There are also 'contrabreves', warrants mainly to sheriffs of shires, assigning them tasks and allowing expenses. Dublin Merchants (1256) In 1870 documents of the Anglo-Normans in Ireland from 1172 to 1320, edited by J. T. Gilbert, Secretary of the Public Record Office of Ireland, were printed in the Rerum Britannicarum Medii Aevi Scriptores series. Chancery Warrants (1244-1326) Warrants were issued by the kings of England to the royal chancery: most of these warrants led to further proceedings which are recorded on the Charter Rolls, Patent Rolls, Fine Rolls, Close Rolls or the Inquisitions: but archivists have identified a large number of warrants for which there are no such equivalent records, and those for the reigns of Edward I and Edward II are gathered here. Close Rolls (1343-1346) The close rolls of the 17th, 18th and 19th years of the reign of king Edward III record the main artery of government administration in England, the orders sent out day by day to individual officers, especially sheriffs of shires: they are an exceptionally rich source for so early a period. Household of the Prince of Wales (1741) 'A General List, or Catalogue, Of all the Offices and Officers Employ'd In the several Branches of his Majesty's Government Ecclesiastical, Civil, Military, &c. In South-Britain, or England' gives the names (and often the annual salaries) of the government functionaries, civil servants, churchmen and military, systematically arranged section by section. Section 88 lists the officers and servants of the Prince of Wales, including the officers of the Duchy of Cornwall, officers and servants of the Bedchamber and Above Stairs, those under the direction of the Master of the Horse, and the officers of his Royal Highness's Family Below Stairs down to the soil-carrier, the turn-broaches and the kitchen boys, and the housekeepers, porters and watchmen at his minor residences. Section 81 lists his Majesty's Household Officers and Servants attending in the several Offices Below Stairs, arranged by department - the Board of Green Cloth; Accompting House; Bake House; Pantry; Buttery; Cellar; Spicery; Confectionery; Ewry; Laundress; King's Privy Kitchen; Queen's Privy Kitchen; Household Kitchen; Larder; Acatery; Poultry; Scalding House; Pastry; Scullery; Wood Yard; Harbingers; Almoner; Gate Porters; Verge; Bread Bearer; Wine Porters; Table Deckers and Purveyors; and staff at Somerset House and Marshalsea.
