A collection of transcripts of churchwardens' accounts from the parishes of St Edmund and St Thomas in Sarum (Salisbury in Wiltshire) by Henry James Fowle Swayne, the Recorder of Wilton, was published by the Wilts Record Society in 1896. The greater part of these accounts relate to expenditure to workmen on the church fabric, and income for rent of pews and the tolling of bells and obsequies for parishioners. There are several sources covered: the churchwardens' accounts for St Edmund's for 1443 to 1461; for St Thomas's 1545 to 1690, and some notes from 1704; and accounts of the stewards of the Fraternity of Jesus Mass founded in St Edmund's.HEMY. Apprenticeship indentures and clerks' articles were subject to a 6d or 12d per pound stamp duty: the registers of the payments usually give the master's trade, address, and occupation, and the apprentice's father's name and address, as well as details of the date and length of the apprenticeship. There are central registers for collections of the stamp duty in London, as well as returns from collectors in the provinces. These collectors generally received duty just from their own county, but sometimes from further afield. Because of the delay before some collectors made their returns, this register includes indentures and articles from as early as 1716. In the general election of April 1859 the candidates for Newcastle-upon-Tyne the candidates were Thomas Emerson Headlam (H), George Ridley (R) and P. A. Taylor (T); the following June a poll was held to choose the Judge-Advocate General, the candidates being the Right Hon. T. E. Headlam (H) and William Cuthbert (C). This poll book lists all the voters, giving full name and address, and votes cast. The book is divided into two sections: freemen and householders. Within the householder section the names are arranged by parish or township: All Saints, Byker, Elswick, Heaton, Jesmond, St Andrew, St John, St Nicholas, and Westgate.HEMY. The Calendar of the Trinity College of Music, London, for the year 1929 includes lists of licentiates and associates including these musicians. Surnames and initials are given; but women are distinguished by having their (first) christian name stated. The college provided instruction to nearly 1000 students a year, with examinations of 66,000 candidates a year at 700 local centres throughout the world. HEMY. Issues 25,649 to 25,676 of the Nottingham Guardian, the regional daily newspaper, were published Monday to Saturday, in August 1938. Apart from general features, national and international news, the paper - with offices in Nottingham, Derby, Grantham, Lincoln, Loughborough and Mansfield - covered local events throughout the East Midlands. The issue for 31 August includes this pass list for the School Certificate in the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate examinations taken the previous July.HEMY. Crockford's Clerical Directory listed all Anglican clergy in the British Isles, India, Africa, Canada, the West Indies, Europe, Australasia and South America. The 77th issue, for 1957-58, is based on returns from all the individuals listed, and was deemed correct as of 30 September 1957. The details given are: name (surname first, in capitals) in bold; name of theological college and/or university, and degrees, with years; a bold d followed by year and diocese signifies date of ordination as deacon and by which bishop; then a bold p, similarly for ordination as priest; posts (C: curate; I: incumbent; V; vicar; R: rector) with parishes and years; address; telephone number; and lists of books &c. where appropriate. In the case of the man then holding an English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh benefice, additional details are given - a bold P signifies the patron of the advowson; then the income, with items such as Q.
