'A General List, or Catalogue, Of all the Offices and Officers Employ'd In the several Branches of his Majesty's Government Ecclesiastical, Civil, Military, &c. In South-Britain, or England' gives the names (and often the annual salaries) of the government functionaries, civil servants, churchmen and military, systematically arranged section by section. Section 32 lists all the colonels, lieutenant-colonels and majors in his Majesty's troops of guards, grenadier guards, regiments of horse, dragoons and foot in Great Britain, followed by a list of all the colonels, lieutenant-colonels and majors in his Majesty's forces in Ireland, Minorca, Gibraltar, and in the Plantations (Leeward Islands, Placentia and Canso, Georgia, Jamaica, New York, Bermudas, and Providence).

Harley Correspondence (1516-1774)
Part of the Portland collection of manuscripts was transferred to Longleat in Wiltshire after the marriage in 1759 of Thomas Thynne, late Marquis of Bath, with the eldest daughter of the 2nd Duke of Portland. These included the papers of her maternal grandfather, Edward Harley, 2nd Earl of Oxford. Mrs S. C. Lomas prepared this calendar for the Historical Manuscripts Commission, published in 1907. These letters had been chosen in an earlier age from the Harvey family correspondence, and bound in two volumes as 'Select Autograph Letters, &c., 1516 to the middle of the 18th century,' and from among these Mrs Lomas in turn chose hitherto unpublished material that seemed of historical interest.

Gloucestershire Freeholders and Tenants: Tormarton (1776)
The election of a knight of the shire to represent the county of Gloucester in Parliament began 6 May and continued until 17 May 1776, the Hon. George Cranfield Berkeley and William Bromley Chester, esq., being the candidates. The franchise was for adult males possessing freehold worth 40s or more per annum. This poll book lists all voters, arranged by hundred and then by township according to the place where their freehold lay. The voter's full name is given (surname first); place of abode; of what the freehold consists (such as messuage and lands); in whose tenure; and how his vote was cast.

Manners family correspondence (1771-1787)
Volumes 26 to 36 of the letters and papers of the Manners family of Belvoir consist largely of the correspondence of lord Robert Manners, naval captain, and his brother Charles marquess of Gransby, subsequently 4th duke of Rutland, who served for a period as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. This printed report dwells mainly on the political rather than domestic content of the manuscripts.

The directory started publication in 1791, but was not completed for some years, and the provincial lists, sent in by local agents, can date back as early as 1790 and as late as 1797.
