The 86th (The Royal County Down) Regiment of Foot returned from India in 1859: the regimental depot was at Templemore. In 1864 the regiment was sent to Gibraltar; in 1867 on to Port Elizabeth and Mauritius; and in 1870 to the Cape of Good Hope. Each year just a handful of outstanding soldiers of the regiment were chosen for good conduct medals and gratuities: these are listed here. There were two lists, one for men recommended for the Good Conduct Medal without a gratuity, and one for gratuities - £5 to a private, £10 to a corporal, and £15 to a serjeant. Both lists are indexed here, and each gives rank, name, regimental number, date of recommendation and date of issue. (The sample scan is from the 105th foot)

The 87th Regiment of Foot (Royal Irish Fusiliers) embarked for Bengal in 1849, and in 1860 was transferred from India into China. It returned home in 1861: the regimental depot was at Buttevant in Ireland. In 1866 the regiment was sent to Gibraltar, and in 1868 on to Malta. Each year just a handful of outstanding soldiers of the regiment were chosen for good conduct medals and gratuities: these are listed here. There were two lists, one for men recommended for the Good Conduct Medal without a gratuity, and one for gratuities - £5 to a private, £10 to a corporal, and £15 to a serjeant. The 95th (The Derbyshire) Regiment of Foot fought in the Crimea, then in 1857 was sent to the Cape of Good Hope; by 1860 it was serving in India, having helped suppress the Indian Mutiny, and added "Central India" to its colours. It returned to England in 1870: the regimental depot was at Fermoy in Ireland. The 1st (or Grenadier) Regiment of Foot Guards was in three battalions. The 1st battalion returned from Portugal in 1828, and was based at Wellington Barracks. The second battalion returned from Canada in 1842, and was based at Chelsea Barracks. The third battalion returned from the Crimea in 1856, and was at the Tower of London.
