(1860-1870)
The 6th Regiment of Dragoon Guards, the Carabineers, having returned from the Crimea, almost immediately embarked for India, and were at Meerut by 1860: they returned to England in 1861, and were sent to Ireland in 1866. The regimental depot was at Maidstone. Each year just a handful of outstanding soldiers of the regiment were chosen for good conduct medals and gratuities: these are listed here. There were two lists, one for men recommended for the Good Conduct Medal without a gratuity, and one for gratuities - £5 to a private, £10 to a corporal, and £15 to a serjeant. Both lists are indexed here, and each gives rank, name, regimental number, date of recommendation and date of issue. (The sample scan is from the 105th foot)LINDER. | Highland Light Infantry fighting in Egypt
(1882)
The war medal roll for the Egyptian campaign of 1882 is annotated to show those men actually present at Tel-el-Kebir, and thereby also entitled to the Tel-el-Kebir clasp. In addition, there follows an almost duplicate roll of men entitled to the Bronze Star granted by the Khedive of Egypt in recognition of the campaign. The 2nd battalion, The Highland Light Infantry, embarked for Egypt in 1882, took part in the battle of Tel-el-Kebir, and returned to England the following year. In fact, this listing is a little more comprehensive than the main directory, in that it includes residents of some London suburbs that, although in the county of Surrey, are not included in the Surrey directory. | Outstanding soldiers of the Highland Light Infantry
(1881-1901)
Each year the best soldiers of the regiment were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.' (not sanctioned) and struck through. The regiment was based on the 71st Regimental District - Hamilton. The 1st battalion returned from Gibraltar in 1880, and in 1885 was stationed at Dublin. It embarked for Malta 9 February 1895, and thence to South Africa ("South Africa, 1899-1902" and "Modder River"). The 2nd battalion left for Egypt in 1882, and there added "Egypt, 1882" and "Tel-el-Kebir" to the regimental honours. Having briefly returned to England, the battalion embarked for India 1 October 1884, and in 1885 was at Dugshai in Bengal, in 1895 at Fyzabad. It took part in the North West Frontier campaign of 1897 to 1898, and in 1899 moved on to Ceylon, returning to England in 1900.LINDER. Cost: £8.00. | Sample scan, click to enlarge

| Medical Practitioners in the Provinces
(1926)
The Medical Directory was split into several sections. The Provinces section covered all medical practitioners resident in England outside the London postal district (except those in Monmouthsire, who were listed under Wales). Each year a schedule was sent to each doctor to be returned to the publishers, so as to keep the directory up to date. In the directory the doctor's name is given first, in bold, surname first, in capitals; then current address. Next are the qualifications; the italic abbreviations in parentheses following the qualifications indicate the medical school at which they were gained. Then there is a list of posts and honours within the profession, starting with those then current; previous posts are preceded by the word 'late'.
