Perry's Bankrupt and Insolvent Gazette, issued monthly, included lists of bankruptcies and stages in the liquidation of the estate, payment of dividends, and discharge. The initial entry in this sequence gives the name of the bankrupt (surname first, in capitals), the date gazetted, address and trade (often with the phrase dlr. and ch., meaning dealer and chapman); the dates and times and courts of the official processes of surrender; the surname of the official commissioner (Com.); the surname of the official assignee; and the names and addresses of the solicitors; the date of the fiat; and whether on the bankrupt's own petition, or at the demand of petitioning creditors, whose names, trades and addresses are given. In subsequent entries the bankrupt is often merely referred to by name and trade. This is the index to the names of the bankrupts, from the issues from January to December 1858, which may or may not include the detailed first entry for any particular individual.SHINTON. The poll book of the election, November 1868, for the Southern Division of Shropshire, is arranged by polling district, and then by parish, township, &c., showing the votes cast (H, Herbert; C, Corbett; M, More), the number on the electoral register, and the full name of the voter, surname first. Where a person had voting qualification in more than one parish, the name is given in each place, but with a cross-reference to the parish list with the entry the vote(s) cast. At the head of each column of register numbers there is a letter in bold indicating the polling district - A, Bishop's Castle; B, Bridgnorth; C, Church Stretton; D, Cleobury Mortimer; E, Clun; F, Ludlow; G, Pontesbury; H, Shiffnal; I, Wenlock.SHINTON. New Zealand War Medal roll for the 2nd battalion of the 14th (Buckinghamshire) Regiment of Foot: for service in the New Zealand campaign 1863 to 1867: the rolls were compiled following a general order in 1869 and the medals were distributed in 1870. The 2nd battalion, despite being part of the Buckinghamshire Regiment, was raised at Mullingar in Westmeath in 1857, and was sent to New Zealand in 1860, where it took part in the war of 1863 to 1865. | Missing Next-of-Kin and Heirs-at-Law

The Unclaimed Money Registry and Next-of-Kin Advertisement Office of F. H. Dougal & Co., on the Strand in London, published a comprehensive 'Index to Advertisements for Next of Kin, Heirs at Law, Legatees, &c., &c., who have been Advertised for to Claim Money and Property in Great Britain and all Parts of the World; also Annuitants, Shareholders, Intestates, Testators, Missing Friends, Creditors or their Representatives, Claimants, Unclaimed and Reclaimed Dividends and Stock, Citations, Administrations, Rewards for Certificates, Wills, Advertisements, &c., Claims, Unclaimed Balances, Packages, Addresses, Parish Clerks' Notices, Foreign Intestates, &c., &c.' The original list was compiled about 1860, but from materials dating back even into the 18th century: most of the references belong to 1850 to 1880. For each entry only a name is given, sometimes with a placename added in brackets: there may be a reference number, but there is no key by which the original advertisement may be traced. The enquirer of the time had to remit £1 for a 'Full and Authentic Copy of the Original Advertisement, together with name and date of newspaper in which the same appeared'. SHINTON. Each year the best soldiers of the regiment were chosen for long service and good conduct medals. This register gives rank, name, regimental number, and date of recommendation. (The sample scan is from the East Surrey regiment). The register is essentially a register of recommendations, annotated with details of the issue of the medals. Where no gratuity accompanied the medal, the entry is marked 'W. G.' (without gratuity); where, for one reason or another, the medal was not issued, the entry is marked 'N. S.' (not sanctioned) and struck through. The regiment was based on the 26th Regimental District - Hamilton. The 1st battalion returned to England from Malta in 1881, transferred to Scotland in 1884 and in 1885 was based at Glasgow. The battalion moved to Ireland in 1886; and back to England in 1891. It embarked for India 1 December 1894, being stationed first at Bareilly in Bengal. The 2nd battalion embarked for the Cape of Good Hope in January 1878, and gained the honour "South Africa, 1877-8-9" for the regiment. It was moved on to India, and in 1885 was at Cawnpore. It returned to England 13 February 1895, and served at Parkhurst. The regiment fought in the South African war and gained the honours "South Africa, 1899-1902" and "Relief of Ladysmith".SHINTON. | Soldiers missing in the Great War: South Staffordshire Regiment

Lists of names of soldiers wounded, died of wounds, died, missing presumed dead, and taken prisoner by the enemy, were issued to the British national press under the title Roll of Honour. Each man is identified by surname, initials and number. The regimental returns from which the daily Roll was compiled were made up over the previous week or weeks. Each regimental return may be partial, covering only part of the alphabet. The lists are provisional, in that a man reported wounded one day may appear as died of wounds later; a missing presumed dead may later be reported as having been found, or as having died; the lists of prisoners of war were provided by the enemy and will relate to captures weeks earlier. However, these rolls are the most comprehensive single source of names of British and allied combatants meeting with misfortune in the Great War. This is the roll published 4 August 1916. SHINTON.
