Bankruptcies (1883-1884) Volume 76 of The Law Times, 'The Journal of The Law and The Lawyers', a weekly publication, runs from 3 November 1883 to 26 April 1884. Much of the journal is taken up with law reports, leading articles, &c., and the 'Solicitors' Department' contains several regular features of great interest. Lists of bankrupts, liquidations by arrangement, dividends and orders of discharge extracted from the London Gazette were published each week, and these have been indexed both for the principals and their solicitors. Bankrupts (1884) In accordance with the Bankruptcy Act of 1883, notices received by the Board of Trade were gazetted in tabular form by the Inspector-General in Bankruptcy. At each stage the record gives the debtor's name, address (often including former addresses), description (i. e., occupation), the name of the court, and the sequential number of the matter in that court for the year. The tables of Receiving Orders additionally give Date of Order, Date of Petition and Date of Public Examination; notices of First Meeting give Date of Meeting, Hour and Place; Adjudications give Date of Order, Date of Petition, Name of Trustee (if appointed) and Address of Trustee; Notices of Intended Dividend give Last Day for Receiving Proofs, Name of Trustee, and Address; Notices of Dividends give Amount per Pound, When Payable, and Where Payable; Applications for Debtor's Discharge state the Day fixed for Hearing; and notices of Appointment of Trustees give the Trustee's Name, Address, and Date of Certificate of Appointment. Any one debtor would normally appear in a number of these tables as his or her case proceeded over the months. These are the notices gazetted in 1884. TOYN. Cost: £4.00.	Sample scan, click to enlarge
Soldiers wounded: Durham Light Infantry (1916) Lists of names of soldiers wounded, died of wounds, died, missing presumed dead, and taken prisoner by the enemy, were issued to the British national press under the title Roll of Honour. Each man is identified by surname, initials and number. The regimental returns from which the daily Roll was compiled were made up over the previous week or weeks. Each regimental return may be partial, covering only part of the alphabet. The lists are provisional, in that a man reported wounded one day may appear as died of wounds later; a missing presumed dead may later be reported as having been found, or as having died; the lists of prisoners of war were provided by the enemy and will relate to captures weeks earlier. However, these rolls are the most comprehensive single source of names of British and allied combatants meeting with misfortune in the Great War. This is the roll published 3 August 1916. TOYN. Associate Members of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (A. M. I. Mech. E.) (1947) The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, founded in 1847, was incorporated by royal charter in 1930. The list of members of 1 March 1947 gives the names (surname first) and addresses of the seven classes of member - Honorary Members (Hon. M. I. Mech. E.); Members (M. I. Mech. E.); Associate Members (A. M. I. Mech. E.); Companions (C. I. Mech. E.); Associates (A. I. Mech. E.); Graduates (G. I. Mech. E.); and Students (S. I. Mech. E.). The year of attaining qualification is given in the left-hand margin; in the higher grades the years of achieving the lower grades are also given, bracketed together. The crossed swords symbol indicates naval or military service during the Great War of 1914-1918; an italic b shows a member of the Benevolent Fund. Inhabitants of Liverpool (1955) Kelly's (Gore's) Directory of Liverpool and District includes this alphabetical list of residents and traders, with names, addresses, and (where applicable) telephone numbers. Covering a large area around Liverpool, the directory includes Bootle, Birkenhead and Wallasey, and thus the populous areas of southwest Lancashire and of the Wirral peninsula of Cheshire. TOYN.
