The register of electors entitled to vote in any parliamentary election for West Norfolk between 1 November 1840 and 1 November 1841 lists 7,620 freeholders arranged by hundred and within hundred by parish or township &c. In the first column, after number within the register, the elector's name is given (surname first); the second column gives place of abode; the third column the nature of qualification (such as 'owner and occupier'); and the fourth column the address of the qualifying property, in some cases with the name of the tenant or occupier.WITHERS. | Officers of the British Army on Foreign Half-Pay

The New Annual Army List, corrected to 7 February 1840, was published in London by Lieut. H. G. Hart. The section entitled 'Officers on the Retired Full Pay and Half Pay' lists all such officers, by rank from captain down to ensign, with paymasters, adjutants, quarter-masters, medical staff and chaplains. (Officers above the rank of captain were retained in the main list of Field Officers). These lists are annotated with dates of successive ranks, when placed on half-pay, and the name of the regiment, &c., and with symbols indicating the officers present at Trafalgar (T), in the Peninsula or the South of France (P), and Waterloo (W). Names of officers on retired full-pay are given in italics. The captains and commanders are given in order of precedence, determined by the dates of their appointment. Then there is a list of the ships of the navy, annotated with the names of their captains, with a separate section for steam vessels; packet brigs at Falmouth; and mail steam vessels at Dover, Weymouth, Pembroke, Liverpool, Holyhead and Portpatrick.WITHERS. A parliamentary poll of the freemen and electors of the City of Oxford was taken 30 June 1841, the candidates being Donald Maclean (Mac), James Haughton Langston (Lan) and Neill Malcolm (Mal). The poll book records the names, addresses and occupations of the householders, district by district, as well as the names of the freemen of the city, and shows for whom they voted.WITHERS. | Masters of Merchantmen at Mobile, Alabama (1841)
The custom house at Mobile, Alabama, issued daily reports of the arrivals and clearing of merchantmen. The lists give the type and name of vessel, surname of master, whence arrived or whither departed, and the name of the shipper. Most of the trade was with American ports and Britain. These abbreviations are commonly used: Ar, arrived; Br, British; fm, from; Schr, schooner. May 1841

'A Correct Copy of the Poll taken at the late Election of a Member of Parliament, for the Borough of Walsall, in the County of Stafford, on Tuesday, the 2nd of February, 1841. Arranged so as to shew The Names of the several Polling Districts into which the Borough was divided; the Vote given by every person who did vote; and distinguishing those who did not vote. Candidates. John Neilson Gladstone, Esq. John Benjamin Smith, Esq.' The four polling districts were: 1 The Foreign Ward (exclusive of Bloxwich and neighbourhood; 2 Bloxwich and neighbourhood; 3 St George's Ward; 4 The Bridge Ward.
